What is My NetClips?
My NetClips is a journalism job search site where subscribers can post articles, audio clips, and video clips to be seen by journalism employers around the country. Employers, for their part, can search a subscriber database to find just the right candidate to fill their job
openings.
Sounds great. How does it work?
Potential subscribers choose from among our reasonably-priced
packages, depending on the amount of space they need and the type of portfolio they want to display. Once their portfolio is online, they then gain access to journalism employers from
around the country who are looking to fill their vacancies. Subscribers always know who is
accessing their portfolio, but need to wait for interested employers to contact them,
contacting these employers offline violates the site's Terms of Service. Anyone reported to have initiated contact with an employer without being asked to do so, will have his or her account canceled immediately and no refund will be given.
Employers who have registered with My NetClips and have had their credentials verified, can search the subscriber database for candidates that suit their needs. When they find a subscriber who interests them, they can view that subscriber's profile page, résumé, and portfolio and contact the subscriber for an online or offline interview.
How much does it cost?
For Subscribers: That depends on the amount of space you need, the type of portfolio that you want to display, and the length of subscription you choose. We have several different reasonably-priced packages available to suit your needs.
For Employers: There is no cost to access the subscriber database, but all employers must register and have their credentials verified prior to being able to search
the subscriber database and/or add jobs to the job board.
I already have a website that has my
portfolio on it. Why should I pay you to do something that I'm already doing?
That's an excellent question. You have obviously already recognized the value of putting your
portfolio online and for that you ought to be commended. However, ask yourself these
questions?
- Do you know when employers are visiting your site?
- Do you know who these employers are?
- Do you know how many employers are even aware of your site's existence?
- Is your site hosted on an overloaded server, resulting in your portfolio site frequently
being down? Or is your portfolio site always up?
These are all questions you'd be able to answer favorably, if you hosted your
portfolio with My NetClips.
Can I link to my existing online clips from my
portfolio?
Unfortunately, that is not possible. The subscription structure is based in part on space
requirements. Since links do not take up space, this would defeat the purpose of assigning
space to subscribers.
In addition, linking to offsite articles would mean that My
NetClips would no longer have control over whether or not a subscriber's links work
correctly, and could eventually lead to dead and/or broken links. This would reduce the ease of
use and effectiveness of the subscriber database as an employer's tool.
What you can do is create a PDF of a web page using Adobe Acrobat or similar PDF-creation program, such as PrimoPDF that can create PDF files for free.
Can I use compressed files in my portfolio?
Due to the site's business model, that is not possible. The subscription structure is based in part on space requirements. The more space bought, the more the subscriber is charged. Since allowing compressed files would defeat the purpose of charging Subscribers for the space they are using, we regret that we do not allow the use of any compressed files.
Please note that any Subscriber caught using compressed files in his or her portfolio may have his or her account suspended until the compressed files are removed. If this happens more than once with the same Subscriber, the Subscriber's account will be canceled immediately and no refund issued. This is done in order to maintain the integrity of this site.
How do I know which package to
choose?
Price, while an important consideration, shouldn't be the only factor in your decision. Think
about the space you'll need. Registered employers are given the option of searching the
database based on a minimum number of posted clips that a subscriber has online. To get an idea of how much space your articles will need please consult our handy storage chart guidelines. Note that this chart is merely a
guideline and that your actual amount of storage may vary.
I am a subscriber in good standing, but I'm not showing up in any of the search results. Why?
Only Subscribers who have created their portfolio and have uploaded at least one sample of work are listed in the portfolio. This is a precaution used to ensure that every search results in subscribers who have work samples that employers can view. To upload samples of your work, log in to your account, click on the "Uploading Instructions" link, and follow the directions listed there.
How do I verify my credentials as an
employer?
Verification is a very simple, yet essential process. It gives our subscribers peace of mind
that those reviewing their work are legitimate journalists. You will be informed of the
verification process, during employer registration.
Do I have to be verified to post on the job
board?
Yes, all employers need to be verified before they can use any part of the site.
Do I need to pay a commission for any journalists I hire from this site?
Absolutely not! We only require that you inform us
when you hire a journalist from our site. If you also want to recommend us to your colleagues, that would be great and much appreciated.
Can I register as both a subscriber and an
employer?
Should you have a need to do so, yes, but you will need two different accounts with two
different usernames and two different passwords, so the website will be able to establish which
account you are trying to use when you attempt to log in.
Where do I sign up?
Subscribers can register on the Subscribers
Register page.
Employers can register on the Employers Register page.
